Recently, General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang ,one after another, give speech on issues of environmental problems and significance of building “Green Hills and Clean Water” in different situations .In order to better understand the speech spirit, journalist of CSUFT have an interview with Communist Party Secretary Zeng siqi. Zeng says, the speech content reflect that our Party and government has paid high attention to ecological civilization. Universities, especially our Agricultural and Forestry college, should catch opportunities and shoulder responsibilities, transmitting more intellectuals for building a country with “Green Hills and Clean Water”. Following are interview transcript:
J: On Sept 7th, when visiting Kazakhstan ,General Secretary Xi make a speech in Nazarbayev University ,which says: “Solving China’s environmental problem should follow only one path。That puts GDP and environment protection on the same place, or even, abandoning economic development and paving a way for environment protection for they are equal to some degree. We want to leave our generations a beautiful homeland.” In the afternoon of Sept 10th, Premier Li Keqiang, attending Davos Forum, also stressed “Just as the green hills and clear water was left by the ancestors, we, as well as, should leave our generations with green hills and clear water.” How do you understand the spirit of their speech?
Zeng: Their speech reflects that the party and the state attach great importance to environmental protection and ecological civilization.” Green Hills and Clear Water” describes environmental protection, while “Gold and silver” represents economic achievements. In many people’s thinking pattern, it is a dilemma to construct ecological civilization and promote economic development simultaneously; however, “Green Hills and Clear Water” can be coordinated together, man and nature can be co-exit. So long as we adhere to the concept of ecological civilization in economic development, apply the advanced technologies, follow the green and low carbon development pattern and take the way of sustainable development, can we achieve the target of building a “ blue sky, green land, and clear water” homeland. If necessary, we would take “Green Hills and Clear Water “rather than “Gold and Silver” for a further consideration. Their speech reflects that our party and state shows humanity to economic development and deep concerns of ultimately meaning of people’s life and health.
J: As the only Green campus in Centre South of China, What contributions will the CSUFT make to the national project of “Clear Water and Green Hills”?
Zeng: It is acknowledged that the 55-year hard working of all faculties and students of CSUFT,after ten-year rapid development, has met its critical period of development.Confronted with the fierce competition trend between higher universities, what goals should our university pursue and which pattern should we take? Those questions are hanging on minds of our chiefs. We find answers in the 18th CPC National Congress, in the emphasis of the concept made by Xi Jinping the general secretary and Li keqiang the premier . We behold the principle that put the green development and forestry in the first place, adhere to our unique growth style. At the same time, we need to bring our subjects expertise into its full play, strengthen our ecological theory and cultivate professional talents so as to make greater contributions to our nation.
J: The motto of our university is “Upon nous and truth, we innovate. For nature and nurture, we cultivate. “ and its fundamental function is to cultivate talents. So, how do we do to join the program of clear water and green hills?
Zeng : As Marx puts, human is the most dynamic factor in productivity. Cultivating talents is one of the four fundamental functions of university, and it is also the principle that our university should hold in a long term. Besides, we have to pay attention to these key words: The first is “shoulder responsibility”, it means pushing ourselves forward as well as representing the sense of responsibility for the future, the world, as a key forestry university ;The second is “discipline leading”, it needs full awareness of the leading role of subjects such as forestry, ecology, etc. and exert our traditional characteristics；The third is “improving education”, it means improving teaching contents, innovate methods, integrity examination systems and inspection, perfect incentive mechanisms; The fourth is “culture construction”, it means that we promote eco-culture, lift faculties and students’ eco-ideas and actions through eco-culture festivals and our ” 43210” eco-project; The fifth is “innovate management” , it means that party organizations and administration departments at all levels should transfer thinking and action patterns, thinking more and practicing more for further development. Enforce cooperation between insides and outsides school and relative departments, integrate powers from all aspects and form a sound eco-chain to achieve the aim “clear water and green hills”.
